Ganduje orders transfer of tortured
toddler’s sister to mum
Ted Odogwu, Kano
The Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has ordered the immediate transfer of the custody of the sister of the battered toddler, Musa Murtala, who was still residing with the step-mother, to her biological mother.
Ganduje, who visited the toddler on his sick bed at the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, directed that the sister of the toddler should, henceforth, be in the custody of his biological mother without further delay.
Also, the Emir of Kano, Mallam Mohammadu Sanusi II, who earlier visited the toddler on his sick bed, also instructed the return of the sister of the toddler to her biological mother for proper care. The governor also disclosed that the state government had already taken over the responsibilities of the toddler, the mother and sister. He said that the mother of the toddler had been included in the state government’s empowerment programme.
Meanwhile, the toddler and his sister had been handed over to her mother, just as Kano-based human rights activists have re-grouped to pursue the prosecution of the alleged offenders to a logical conclusion.
The state government however said that the law must be allowed to take its course.
