The Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, says his administration has taken steps to ensure that no worker in the state loses his job in the face of the current economic recession in the country.

He said government had the duty to ensure that workers did not lose their jobs to avoid “catastrophe.”
A statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday quoted Ayade as saying this during the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop for heads of gender desks in ministries, departments and agencies in the state.
According to the  statement, Ayade spoke at the event through his deputy, Prof.  Ivara Esu.
The governor noted that the economic recession in the country had forced many private businesses in the country to fold up leading to job losses.
“As a government, we must, at all levels, take necessary actions to stem the situation if we must avoid the catastrophe of other challenges that may arise from the unemployment situation,” Ayade said.
He said it was because of this that he established the Calabar Garment Factory to engage the teeming population of unemployed youths in the state.
He also gave the assurance that the interest of women would be adequately protected under his watch.
