The minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun recently revealed that the ministry discovered 23,000 ghost workers in the federal civil service .On a minimum wage of N18,000 each monthly, that’s a minimum of N414 million monthly . Imagine N414 million being invested in rice farming, cocoa farming monthly or into each of the Federal universities monthly.
Civil servants are proving to be enemies of progress in President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti- corruption war. It will be recalled that the president praised civil servants earlier in his administration saying they do all the work; referring to ministers as noisemakers during the clamour by Nigerians for the president to appoint ministers. Maybe he was referring to the civil servants when he was the head of state 30 years ago. With the recent allegations of padding of the budget by civil servants, PMB has been welcomed to the civil servants of 2016 where level 12, 13 civil servants are owning luxury apartments in Maitama and Asokoro. You wonder how he does it when his uncle is not Dasuki. With a corrupt civil service, the fight against corruption may take longer than expected.
