All these baby names have shocking unfortunate meanings!10 hrs ago
And some of these popular names do!
Cecilia
Old-fashioned and traditional names have been coming more and more popular, but maybe steer clear of Cecilia as it means ‘blind.’
Claudia
Again, sticking with the traditional, royal-esque names, however, watch out for Claudia as it means ‘lame’ or ‘disabled.’
Deirdre
Plenty of Deirdre’s are floating about this lovely emerald isle, but did you know that the name actually means ‘sorrowful’ or ‘sad one.’
Emily
A name that has occupied the top name spot in the last few years, Emily is the English version of Aemilila, which means ‘rival.’
Leah
The name Leah has many different meanings, but in Hebrew, it means ‘tired’ or ‘weary.’ (In Irish it means the light of the sun, so maybe we’ll stick with that!)
Mary
You would think that such a holy name would have a holy meaning, nope, in Hebrew, Mary means ‘rebellion’ or ‘bitter.’
Molly
And Molly also means ‘bitter.’
Rebecca
Another popular one in Ireland, Rebecca means ‘to bind’, ‘to tie’ or ‘snare’.
And with that, we’re going to move onto the boys.
(Don’t worry, there’s much less bad names here!)
Calvin
You might be tempting fate if you call your son Calvin, it means ‘bald.’
Cameron
This Scottish name means ‘crooked nose’, most definitely not the worst on the list.
Jacob/James
Both these names are from the same root and carry the same meaning – ‘supplanter’ which means one who takes the rightful place of someone else.
Tristan
Another name with multiple meanings, in Celtic Tristan means ‘sorrowful’ or ‘sad.’
Don’t worry if you see your perfect little one’s name here, as long as you’re happy with the name.
